Our gynae oncology department focuses on cancers of the female reproductive tract, with specialised diagnoses and treatments for ovarian cancer, uterine cancer, vaginal cancer, cervical cancer, vulvar cancer, cancer of the endometrium and human papillomavirus (HPV).
We understand the worry and anxiety that follows a cancer diagnosis and take every effort to ensure that you stay calm and confident throughout your journey with us.
Physical examinations, imaging tests and biopsies are necessary processes to accurately diagnose cancers. These are followed by treatment options that range from surgery to therapies including radiation therapy, chemotherapy and targeted therapy.
The type of treatment to use will depend on a patient’s condition and stage of cancer, type of cancer as well as patient’s preference of one treatment over another.
This includes Colposcopy with/without biopsy, loop electrosurgical excision procedures (LEEP/LLETZ), endometrial assessments (hysteroscopy), biopsies and ablations.
Encompassing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as well as surgical procedures such as hysterectomy, myomectomy, oophorectomy, biopsy (peritoneal, omentum, lymph nodes)
Surgical removal of the omentum the fatty tissues that surround the stomach area, large intestines and abdominal organs. This is usually performed when ovarian cancer has spread into the omentum or to prevent further risk of it spreading to other organs.
This is a delicate procedure that demands high surgical expertise to minimise complications. It involves the dissection of the para-aortic and paracaval nodes as well as the surrounding tissues.
This procedure is aimed at removing as much tumours as possible to relieve symptoms and to improve the chance of chemo and radiation therapies to eliminate remaining tumour cells.
We also actively advocate the prevention of gynaecologic cancers with regular screenings such as Pap tests and HPV testing.
Lifestyle changes such as maintaining a healthy weight, practising safe sex and quitting smoking also makes a difference.
