Paediatric Plastic Surgery Unit

Improving form and function with surgical expertise

Disfigurements caused by congenital conditions or deformities from traumatic injuries can be devastating for children and their families. Sometimes, reconstructive surgery may be the best way to not only improve appearances but also restore mobility and essential functionalities.

Our procedures are aimed at restoring normality, as much as possible, for our young patients.

A new lease of life, one procedure at a time

We want your child to look and feel their best. Our specialists have performed a wide range of procedures to correct anomalies and deformities while also ensuring that every child receives truly personalised care.

To ensure ideal outcomes, some of our procedures may involve collaboration with in-house experts such as dermatologists and paediatricians.

Highlights

From deep burn injuries to complete recovery

On June 2021, Qayyum was brought to Avisena Women’s & Children’s Specialist Hospital with deep burn injuries to his face, hands and feet. Aside from facing a life-threatening condition, he was dehydrated and at risk of suffering severe bacterial infection.

Qayyum was immediately admitted and provided with burn care treatment for 2 weeks, during which he underwent 3 wound debridement procedures in the operating room along with collagen dressing treatment.

The procedure was performed by Dr Wan Syazli, our Plastic, Aesthetic & Reconstructive Surgeon together with the Anaesthesiology team led by Dr Navina Thiagarajah. He was placed in the isolation ward and was closely monitored by Dr. Fazila Mohamed Kutty, our Paediatric and Neonatology Specialist. Qayyum’s condition has improved and he has completely healed.
