Specialist Background

Esther Ng Ying Yee received her Bachelor of Social Sciences with Honours (Psychology) in 2011 and she then obtained her Master in Clinical Psychology in 2014 from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.

She is a registered clinical psychologist with the Malaysian Society of Clinical Psychology. Her field of expertise is in psychological assessment and psychotherapy, particularly in children and adolescents. She has more than 10 years of experience working with children with neurodevelopmental disorder [i.e., Specific Leaning Disorders (e.g., Dyslexia), Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD] and their families.

She administers standardised assessment and therapy to children who struggle with difficulty in learning, short attention span, anxiety, low self-esteem, and socio-emotional issues. Her goal is to help each child to discover their unique personal strengths and be aware of their own weaknesses, so that they will be able to achieve their full potential in their life.

She worked as an Applied Behavioural Analysis Therapist at Early Autism Project Malaysia in 2011, providing intensive evidence-based intervention to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and working closely with their families. Then, she also worked as a Personal Learning Assistant at British International School Kuala Lumpur, supporting children with high functioning Autism and Dyslexic in an inclusive setting, based on their individualised Individual Education Plan.

Besides that, she also provided therapy and socio emotional support for children who struggle with social awareness, social communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation in the school setting. She is also a Orton Gillingham trained reading specialist. Since 2012, she provides evidence-based intervention for children who struggle with reading.

She started her clinical practice as a clinical psychologist trainee at Health Psychology Clinic UKM and Hospital UKM in 2013-2014. Then, she worked as a clinical psychologist at Hospital Kuala Lumpur in 2015. Followed by working at Centre for Psychological and Counseling Services, International University Malaya-Wales in 2016 for 5 years. Subsequently, she joined Avisena in 2019.

On top of working in a clinic setting, she also gives lectures at universities (i.e., International University Malaya-Wales, University of Reading Malaysia, and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia). She enjoys training young professionals with current research and evidence-based practices.
